About the Town of Matthews Matthews North Carolina is located approximately 10 miles southeast of Charlotte's center city, straddling the Union and Mecklenburg County borders. The town features a small downtown area which comprises the city hall, library, a farmers market, elementary school, fire station, and a few restaurants. The outlying areas of Matthews include a robust shopping area along Matthews Township Parkway and Independence Blvd. This area includes a Lowes, Home Depot, Harris Teeter, Sam's Club, Costco, Kohls, Stien Mart, and so much more. The town of Matthews is also home to the Presbyterian Matthews Hospital. Population: Matthews NC has a population of around 22,000 residents over 13 square miles. Employers: Residents of Matthews enjoy a working throughout the Charlotte area as the town is the ideal location for commuters to Charlotte, Concord, and Fort Mill. The town of Matthews is home to many employers, including Family Dollar, Harris Teeter, PCA International, Presbyterian Health Care, Exopack, and Conbraco. Real Estate in Matthews Matthews offers residents a diverse range of housing options from townhomes starting at $75,000 to luxury homes exceeding a million dollars. The majority of Matthews was developed since 1980 however the town of Matthews has a small section of homes dating back to the 20's and earlier. Today, a majority of those properties have been converted to commercial office space as the town has expanded east towards Mint Hill and south towards the county line. A portion of Matthews extends over the Mecklenburg county line into Union county. While this area shares the post office with the town of Matthews, they are governed by either the Town of Stallings, Town of Weddington or are unincorporated.
